Building up Brooklyn by Making Art Accessible for All

This week’s Brooklyn Business Owners Spotlight Series features Building Brooklyn Street Art, looking to give street artists a platform and community members access to art.

It is said that “art is all around us” and Building Brooklyn Street Art is looking to keep it that way. At the heart of the mission statement for this new Brooklyn business is to connect artists and business owners so that they may collaborate in making the streets of Brooklyn into an accessible art museum for all.

Art can speak volumes; feeding that soul and mind to those that it touches and for BBSA owner Nicole, it is imperative that everyone has access to that. Inspired by street and graffiti artists such as Keith Haring and JR, Building Brooklyn Street art is here to enable street graffiti artists to bring even more beauty and social awareness into Brooklyn communities through their art.

A unique business model, BBSA will receive a request for a mural from a building, business owner or community member. It matches that request with a BBSA artist to begin concept design for that request. Once that sketch design is presented and agreed upon by both parties, the street artist begins working to bring that design to life and in turn, making art accessible to the people of Brooklyn.

For Nicole, this venture is two-fold: make the streets of Brooklyn into a museum where all people have access to art while doing their part to make sure NYC artists are not starving artists. “It is our mission to make being an artist a stable career option.” Launched only months ago, Nicole is committed to ensuring that BBSA grows through cold calls, social media and visits. She awaits the day that she’ll be driving and walking through Brooklyn and seeing art in the streets and knowing that it was her artists who made that happen.
